Tasting ROom / Bar Manager

 

Oak and Grist Distilling Company in Black Mountain is seeking a full-time Tasting Room/Bar Manager. We are looking for someone who is interested in providing a community minded experience for guests of the distillery. Seeking someone with availability for Saturday shifts.

This is a full time (40 hrs/week), salaried position. Starting base pay of $42k + tips. The position also comes with PTO.

This job involves, but is not limited to, the following duties: 

  • Knowing and following all applicable federal and state liquor laws and safe serve practices

  • Greeting and welcoming guests to the distillery

  • Clearly communicate information surrounding distillery operations, products produced, experience options

  • Lead seasonal cocktail menu R&D

  • Oversee additional bar staff

  • Keeping required records pertaining to bar inventory and operations

  • Answering, or seeking answers to, questions guests have about spirits and cocktails

  • Inventory, prepare and stock bar ingredients

  • Mix, garnish, and serve cocktails/mocktails 

  • Serve and guide spirit tastings

  • Operating POS and handling payments

  • Selling spirits by the bottle as well as merch

  • Doing dishes and maintaining a clean/organized bar 

  • Keeping up with records pertaining to tasting room

  • Doing prep work

The ideal candidate is at least 21 years of age and:

  • Is warm, genuine, welcoming, and familiar with giving great customer service (good news: we have AWESOME customers here)

  • Hasa minimum 3 years experience bartending and/or bar management experience 

  • Has great spatial and social awareness

  • Enjoys working within small team environment

  • Is self motivated, driven, and takes pride in what they do 

  • Someone who is not afraid to ask questions! Among the staff or even in response to guests. 

  • Has an interest in: brewing, distilling, craft cocktails, agriculture, other local independent businesses.

Because we were a distillery long before we became a cocktail bar, and because our products are so unique, we put much more emphasis on education than a bar would. We have guests that return year after year from faraway states, as well as wonderful local regulars, tourists and newbies; we want them to remember Oak and Grist as a warm, comfortable and intriguing experience, and not just a drink. We also strive for a very high standard with our cocktail program, with an aim of constant improvement and constant learning.
